Question of the Week

“What is the purpose of different supplements and do they work?”

This question is probably one of the most common questions I receive as a health coach and personal trainer.

If you look at the deffiniton of supplement it is dead on : “Something that completes or enhances something else when added to it.”

When looking at adding supplements into an already sound nutrition protocol and workout program, you should ask yourself some questions first:

1) Where are there gaps in my nutrition? Am I getting enough protein, micro nutrients (vitamins & minerals)?

2) Why are there the above gaps in my nutrition?

That is the basic foundation to figuring out if it is time for you to look at supplementing your diet with a protein shake and/or multivitamin.

After the basic supplements, such as protein and multi vitamin, there are probably 1000s of products that exist to attempt to fill a certain “need”. We can make a ton of progress with just meeting basic supplement needs.

Does supplementing with a protein shake help reach your daily protein needs? 100% yes if you struggle with eating on the run as a busy person or if you are a bigger person with higher protein needs. Just make sure you are using a high quality product. The cheapest is not the best when it comes to what we put in our body.

If you are like me and there’s no chance you are getting 10+ servings of combined fruits and veggies every day, adding a multivitamin and a greens product can really help you fill in those gaps as you try to incorporate more fruits and veggies.

As always feel free to email me, text, DM me if you have any questions about anything.
