Follow up to “Are you ready to change?”
It’s 9am on 1/1; Travis is fighting off a nasty hangover and football starts in 3 hours. Brunch sounds better than benching and you can bet your ass that protein shake isn’t happening for breakfast today (besides, there’s no protein shakes in the house).
“WTF was I thinking, I can’t start today. I don’t have a gym membership and there is no food in the house.”
“Honey let’s go get brunch before the Badger game.”
….”Aren’t you dieting?”
Travis, still dumbfounded from the night before, questions himself, “Why are you doing this?”
I have a hot wife who loves me, I don’t really do anything active anymore, I have good biomarkers for health are decent, and my belly doesn’t jiggle too much walking into a pool. Travis wants more than that though, he’s always wanted to be more than average.
Let’s get inside Travis’s head:
I am insecure in tight fitting clothes.
I hate going to the cabin and taking my shirt off.
Hunting last year was much harder than it should have been.
My parents have preventable health issues from poor diet and zero exercise…..are they going to die soon?
I can’t die young, I have a daughter who’s not even 1 year old and I am 36! My family is everything to me! WTF, I am a good dad, I want to model health to my little girl, I want to be here for as long as possible.
Travis has found his “Why.”
Marie comes down the stairs ready to smash brunch but Travis has his workout clothes on.
“I am going to be the best role model I can for Debbie, I am going to live a long time, and damnit I am worth it. Gym, Hy-vee, and then football.”
